Police: DNA links suspect to sexual assault of teenage girl in Santa Ana park

Police were able to use DNA evidence to link a man to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl last year at a park in Santa Ana.

Cornelio Chairez-Velasquez, 37, was already in custody for another assault when investigators this week linked him to the November 2018.

Chairez-Velasquez had been in custody since January, when he attacked a woman at a Santa Ana motel, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

He tried to sexually assault the woman before choking her. Police responded to the motel and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and for sexual assault.
