When Ariana Grande was announced as a headliner of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in January there might have been some grumbling from the old-timer crowd but as the 25-year-old pop star’s set got underway it all made sense.
Grande might be even more current in the pop scene than last year’s headliner Beyoncé. Which isn’t to say she’s better than Queen Bey — she’s not, though she is undeniably an incredible talent.
And the Now means a lot in music, which is what Grande brought, though not without the occasional nod to the past on Sunday.
