After swastika photo with students went viral, the local Jewish community embraced and educated them

It was late Saturday, March 2, when Lee Weissman saw that Snapchat post. A group of teenagers gathered around a swastika formed by red Solo cups – smiling, flashing Nazi salutes.

Like many others on social media, Weissman, who teaches Jewish Studies at Tarbut V’Torah, a community day school in Irvine, was horrified.

He posted the photo with this pointed comment: “Teen fun in Newport Beach? Kids, playing ‘Nazi’ is not ‘cute’. Affluenza strikes again?”
