Alexander: Strong Chargers’ season ends with an abysmal day against Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — A helpful Patriots fan draped a banner over the field railing at Gillette Stadium before Sunday’s game. It read:

“Ready The Gun Powdah.”

For what? To put the visiting Chargers out of their misery?

This dreary afternoon, this 48-21 beatdown by New England in the AFC Divisional Round, was like playing Madden and setting it to “extreme embarrassment” level. This was a Chargers defense, so competent last week against a multi-dimensional rookie quarterback, reduced to pylons and bystanders by the old master, Tom Brady, during a first half in which the Patriots scored touchdowns on their first four possessions and led 35-7 [READ MORE HERE]
