Los Alamitos delivers resounding win over Huntington Beach in Surf League basketball opener

LOS ALAMITOS – Communication is one of the common denominators for all strong defensive teams.

The Los Alamitos girls basketball team was vocal all night Thursday in a 48-25 win over Huntington Beach.

“We’ve been challenging our girls every game to get a little bit better and to talk on defense and communicate,” Griffins coach Rich Alvarez said. “As long as they’re on the same page, we’re a tough defensive team.”

This Surf League opener featured two highly-ranked teams in Orange County but it wasn’t close, as the eighth-ranked Griffins (17-4, 1-0) held No. 9 Oilers (14-6, 0-1) to a season-low point total.
