Girls basketball notes: Standout players dealing with injuries as league play intensifies

Oxford Academy center Austyn Masuno and University point guard Malia Goldsmith, two of the top players in Orange County, are dealing with injuries as league play in girls basketball heats up.

Masuno, an uncommitted, 6-foot-2 senior who averages 19.6 points and 9.6 rebounds, missed three games last week in the Gold Division of the Buena Park/Savanna Tournament because of a low-ankle sprain, Patriots coach Dave Clifton said.

The Patriots (14-3 overall) went 2-2 in the tournament, which was won by Yosemite. Oxford Academy, a contender in CIF-SS Division 2A, opens play in the revamped 605 League on Thursday at Artesia (12-6).
