Snow from a storm sweeping Southern California shut down the Grapevine stretch of the 5 Freeway through the Tejon Pass Thursday, pinching off the vital freeway artery to and from California’s Central Valley.

The California Highway Patrol announced the closure at 9:24 a.m. for the area near Tejon Pass, which is at an elevation of 4,160 feet. Caltrans reported cars sliding on the roadway in the Lebec and Grapevine areas.
