By City News Service

STANTON — An Orange County sheriff’s deputy escaped serious injury Monday when his patrol car and a big rig collided in Stanton, authorities said.

The crash was just after midnight at Beach Boulevard and Katella Avenue, the California Highway Patrol said.

The deputy was taken to a hospital with a complaint of soreness from his vehicle’s airbag deployment, sheriff’s Lt. Ken Binning said. The big rig driver was treated at the scene.

The patrol car sustained moderate damage, Binning said. Video from the scene showed what appeared to be considerable front-end damage to the car.

The CHP was investigating, Binning said.
