Mark Leibovich says he thought he was getting a break from his day job, writing about national politics for the New York Times Magazine, when he embarked on a book about the National Football League, home of his beloved New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady, the superstar who is his, and really, every New Englander’s patron saint.
