After holding two of five scheduled public hearings on changing the boundaries of City Council wards, Santa Ana officials have canceled the remaining hearings and are delaying any action until a voting rights lawsuit is resolved.
Cities with district- or ward-based representation periodically redraw the boundaries to ensure fair representation. Goals may include balancing the number of residents in each district or creating a ward that gives an underrepresented minority group a bigger voice.
Hearings on adjusting the ward boundaries were planned this week on Tuesday, May 15, and Saturday, May 19, but were canceled because of a pending lawsuit.
