Swarm of small earthquakes hit near San Clemente Island

Four small quakes centered south of San Clemente Island struck between 3:22 and 4:53 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018, the USGS reported. (Image from the USGS web site – click for a larger view)

A swarm of four small earthquakes struck early this morning just south of San Clemente Island, the southernmost of the Channel Islands, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first quake of preliminary magnitude 3.7 struck at 3:22 a.m. It was followed by quakes of magnitudes 3.4 at 3:53 a.m., 2.8 at 3:57 a.m. and 3.3 at 4:53 a.m.
