Here’s how Orange County’s teachers of the year reacted when surprised with awards

In a county with 600 schools serving 500,000 students, they were the chosen ones: the Orange County Department of Education’s 2019 teachers of the year.

The department recognized the work of six teachers on Tuesday, May 1, surprising them in front of students with shiny apple-shaped trophies, balloons, and in one case, a marching band.

“We were looking for somebody that was passionate and enthusiastic about teaching,” said Kristin Crellin, vice president of school and community relations for Schools First Federal Credit Union.
