LOS ANGELES — USC will not have Chimezie Metu on the court when it opens the National Invitational Tournament on Tuesday night.
Metu will sit out the top-seeded Trojans’ first-round game against No. 8 seed UNC-Asheville, sources confirmed.
Sports Illustrated first reported that Metu would be sidelined.
Coach Andy Enfield on Monday had left open the possibility that Metu, a projected second-round pick in the NBA draft, would not play in an effort to avoid potential injury. The 6-foot-11 junior is expected to declare for the draft following this season. He considered turning pro after last season, but remained in school.
