Power restored to downtown San Juan Capistrano after 8-hour outage closes road, halts local train service

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Electrical maintenance work at a railroad right-of-way about a half-mile north of Mission San Juan Capistrano led to a power outage that impacted an estimated 2,300 homes and businesses Thursday, Jan. 25.

The outage, which started shortly after 10 a.m., knocked out power to downtown San Juan Capistrano including the mission and the business district along Camino Capistrano and Ortega Highway, officials said.

It also shut down train service locally and forced the city to close Camino Capistrano during repairs as a precaution, since the power lines stretch over the railroad tracks and over Camino Capistrano.
