Lake Forest becomes the hottest spot in the U.S. Saturday

It may be a frigid 45 below zero in Embarass, Minn., the coldest location in the country Saturday.

But here in Southern California, according to the National Weather Service, Lake Forest set the record for not just being the hottest spot in the United States, but for the hottest Jan. 13 in Orange County since 1916.

The temperature in Lake Forest? A searing 90 degrees.

The second-highest temperature over the last century for Jan. 13 in Orange County, 89 degrees, was recorded in Santa Ana in 2009, said meteorologist James Brotherton.
