Saved By The Bell:
Like a punch drunk boxer whose knees were in danger of giving out, we staggered to the stool and our trainer was out giving us water, encouragement and wiping the blood from our swollen face. We were barely able to make it to another round but we were saved by the bell.
Isn’t God’s timing great! He knew how much we could take and still remain upright. We took our punishment, something of our own volition, our own choosing. We survived every punch, every low blow, every dirty clinch and rose again when we were leveled by an unseen upper cut that staggered us to the core and put us down on the mat. The count was on but we managed to struggle to our feet and go at it again, shaken but not out of the competition.
There were many in the crowd whose bets had been against us, whose hatred of America was such that even if it hurt them and their families the vitriol was still hurled in our direction. “Kill the bum”, ” hit him harder”, “drive him into the dirt”, just a few of the nasty words being hurled in our direction. Our flamboyant opponent had promised a quick end to our time as World Champion, an embarrassing close to a short reign. But we had trained for the event for over 200 years, and had battled bigger and badder opponents over those years. Names like Kaiser, Pol Pot, Hitler, who had run roughshod over earlier opponents and risen to the podium of victory. We were battle scared but fit. We had a fantastic coach and a great guidebook to form our strategies. But even with the best of preparations it always comes down to what happens in the ring, as the whole world watches, cheers, boos, bets for or against us.
What a relief that this championship round has finished and the decision went to We The People. Tomorrow there will be a little recovery and then the rigors of training begin again as the new champion prepares for the next conflicts to come. We will give it all that we have and with Gods blessing and support we will keep winning.
